In such situations, Windows help team suggests that you make sure your system is connected. Click Start and select Control Panel. Network Discovery lets you view other computers and also decides whether to let other computers see you. Windows Firewall sometimes blocks it. 1. Windows help when the workgroup name is different

When the different computers in the network use different operating systems, Windows help team thinks it’s better to first make sure they all have the same workgroup name.

For Windows 7 or Vista users, open the Control Panel and enter “System” in the search box. Open the System file and under the computer name, the workgroup name can be identified.

For Windows XP users, follow the file route given: Start->Control Panel->Performance and Maintenance->System. In the system file, under Computer Name, the workgroup name can be identified.
